SPORTS INJURIES

Athletes, remember to get in shape BEFORE practice begiins.

CONDITION, STRETCH and STRENGTHEN!

Do not expect hell week to get you into shape for your sport.  Starting a sport without conditioning prior to the first practice will increase your chance of injury.  Also, remember to get plenty of rest and eat a balanced diet.  Please see the Athletic Trainer if you have any questions about the types of activities that can help you prepare for your sport.

Overuse injuries are common in high school sports. Beginning a sport without conditioning, changes in training intensity, surface and or duration, fatigue, changing sports, ill fitting equipment, muscle imbalance, and new/old shoes are things that can cause overuse injuries. Apophysitis (Injury to the Growth Plate), Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome (Shin Splints), Osgood Schlatters Disease, Stress Fractures, and Tendonitis are some common overuse injuries. It is important to see the athletic trainer as soon as you start feeling any pain. Do not run through it or walk it off as this will make the condition worse, which will increase healing time and time away from your sport.
